Q7: During the
economic downturn, a company retrenched 300 out of its 1200 employees. What

Q9: The value of a PS3 decreases
each year by 20%. If the price of a PS3 today is Rs 30 000, calculate
the price after 3 years.
Q10: An election quiz is marked out of 60. Zardari obtained 43 marks, Nawaz
Sharif got 46 marks and Imran Khan obtained 49 marks. The Election Commission
decides that those who score 80% and above will become President, while those
who score70% - 79% will become Ministers. What ranks do each candidate get?
Q11: Nana sold her tea at 65 rupees per gram in 2006, which was 25% more
than what it was in 2004. What was the price of tea in 2004?
Q12: A man’s salary is $1850 per month. Out of this, 20% goes to his rent,
$690 goes to food and $940 on other expenses. What percentage has he over
spent?
Q13: After spending 128% of his income, a man has to borrow $756 from his
friend to make up the difference. Find his income.
Q14: The result of a number, when decreased by 15%, is 161. Find this
number.
Q15: James is 8% taller than John, and Wilson is 10% shorter than John. By
what percentage is James taller than Wilson?

Q17: A tour guide earns 3% commission of the total sales by bringing

Q18: Ali’s monthly income consists of 500 rupees permanent plus a commission
of 4% on all his sales. Find his total sales for a particular month if his
total income was 1220 rupees that month.
Q19: Three salesmen went to 400 households to sell microwaves costing $60
each. 15% of the households bought a rice cooker from each of them. If the
three salesmen sold the rice cookers in the ratio 3:4:5, find the commission
each salesman received if the commission is 4% of the total sales.

Q22: Mr. Chang
deposits a certain amount of money in a bank. If the interest rate of the bank
decreases from 3 % per annum to 2.5 % per annum, Mr. Chang’s interest will
decrease by $50 in a year. Find the principal amount of the money he deposits.

Q24: A 5m long
ladder is placed against a wall with its foot 1.8 m from the wall. Find how far
up the wall the ladder reaches.
Q25: The
lengths of the sides of a triangle are x
cm, (x +1) cm and (x + 2) cm. Determine x so that this triangle is a
right-angled triangle.
